In August the Port of L.A. will host a giant rubber duckie as the Tall Ships® Festival commences adding one more reason for families to head to the LA Waterfront.
How fun is this for an end of summer experience with your kids – seeing a giant yellow ducky not in the bath tub. I love the spirit and idea behind the appearnces of the big yellow duck who apparently has been cleared to appear in LA and so I am passing along the news. Better yet while on the LA Waterfront there’s also a chance to tour the USS IOWA, ride the San Pedro Trolley and perhaps even visit the Queen Mary. All things I love about LA but back to the news about very big ducky.
Here’s the scoop.
Florentijn Hofman’s Rubber Duck project will make its west coast debut at Tall Ships® Festival L.A., August 20, 2014, sailing into the Port of Los Angeles Harbor leading the Tall Ships® Grand Parade of Sail.“This giant Rubber Duck is an iconic way to bring all cultures together,” said Craig Samborski, Tall Ships® Festival Los Angeles Executive Producer. “Los Angeles is the ideal place for the Duck to celebrate the world’s diversity and culture,” added Samborski.Tall Ships® Festival L.A has the honor of welcoming more than a dozen beautiful Tall Ships to the shores of Los Angeles, affording visitors the rare chance to catch a glimpse, step aboard, and even set sail on some of the grandest ships of yore. With the addition of the internationally acclaimed enormous Rubber Duck, visitor’s rare glimpse into history gets even more spectacular. The Port of Los Angeles is the first-ever west coast port to host the globally famous Rubber Duck and only the second North American city to do so. The Duck project is the creative effort of internationally renowned artist Florentijn Hofman (The Netherlands). “The Rubber Duck knows no frontiers, it doesn’t discriminate people and doesn’t have a political connotation. The friendly, floating Rubber Duck has healing properties: it can relieve the world’s tensions as well as define them. The rubber duck is soft, friendly and suitable for all ages,” according to Hofman.
