The world’s largest rubber duck is quickly approaching icon status after appearances around the world, and it is known for bringing a certain air of whimsy and personal connection that only a supersized bath toy can provide.
There’s no wrong way to experience rubber Duck. Take pictures with the duck or take pictures of the duck. Take a stroll along the LA Waterfront with your family and friends to enjoy views best described as just ducky.
Is it art, or is it just a big yellow outburst of childlike joy? Discover it for yourself, as Tall Ships Festival LA 2014 invites people of all ages to come enjoy a phenomenon that has captivated audiences around the world.
Float More. Quack Less.
This oversized version of the world’s favorite bath-time companion is a seasoned world traveler, and as impossible as it may sound, it projects a personality on those who view it no matter the language or culture.
One might expect Rubber Duck to connect people to their inner child. What’s unexpected is its ability to synchronize a crowd in harmonious ways. The friendly inflatable has been described as having healing properties, and in nearly eight years of world travel, it’s been everything it was quacked up to be.
Rubber Duck is bigger than a sail on a great sailboat, so to keep it from blowing away, it is tethered to a heavy round barge. Just as with all works of art in a museum, people are not to touch it. People are encouraged to stay out of the waters of the Hague Inlet, and boaters and kayakers must keep a respectful distance. Souvenir replicas will be available for purchase.
Rubber Duck will be illuminated after dark, but in deference to those living near his latest oversized tub, the scene will go dark each night at 11 p.m.
Since its creation in 2007, the 40-foot rubber duck–the same bath-time companion that children from all over the world know and love–has traveled far and wide to locales such as Hong Kong, Sydney and Amsterdam.
